A bit about Shannon
With my BA in Psychology, MSc in Global Mental Health, and commencing my PhD in Social Anthropology, I consider myself foremost a writer and critical thinker. I completed my BA at a top-ten liberal arts college in the US, where the intensive interdisciplinary curriculum spanned the sciences, arts, and humanities. I've worked as a student writing coach, built a uni dance program for peer health and support, and independently developed English language-learning curricula for rural Burmese schools during previous ethnographic projects. From this experience, I've practiced tutoring across diverse forms of writing, including literary analysis, scientific reports and articles, and creative pieces. I believe that strong writing skills transcend disciplinary focus, and I design my lessons around developing critical thought and individual voice.
That said, my primary concern in lessons is to take a student-centred approach: to work with each student to prioritize their needs, goals, comfort, and wellness in each session. Learning and writing are fun things, or at least they ought to be, and my fundamental goal is to provide a service that cultivates a sustainable academic skillset for each and every student.
