A bit about Laura
I am lucky enough to have had lots of wonderful opportunities throughout my life so far, and I have developed a wide range of interests and skills.
My main hobbies while growing up were music, dancing, swimming and art. I graduated from the University of Leeds in July 2022, with a BSc in Zoology. I have always been fascinated by the natural world and especially so by the animals within it. This degree was perfect for me, and I also learned a lot about statistics, climate change, and anthropology while studying it.
My degree also benefited from what I had learned while preparing STEM lessons, which I taught in my final year of high school. The lessons consisted of both group learning and one-to-one sessions, where I had to be flexible and adapt to the most effective teaching style for the learner in question.
Music is a big part of my life, and I have achieved ABRSM Grade 8 cello, Grade 3 flute and Grade 5 music theory. This passion allowed me to experience the very fulfilling opportunity of assisting a cello teacher in her lessons. I learned a lot, including how to teach something practical, how to teach a variety of ages simultaneously and how to cater to each child's needs and learning speeds.
Overall, my past experience, both in general and in teaching, has shown me how fulfilling it can be to give a student that extra little bit of help they need to excel in their school subjects.
